WYMAMWhen You Move Around Me – is not just an exhibition project, but rather a compendium of our most recent research: two large installations, two environments that question and challenge us on the role of art and the viewer, bringing to light three core concepts we have been reflecting on: aniconic, non-anthropocentric, and initiatory spaces.

ANICONIC. Literally “without images,” or more precisely, without explicit figurative representation. There are no bodies, faces, or recognizable objects. The artworks avoid any direct reference to the visible everyday world. Instead of figurative imagery, we see primary-colored surfaces, modular structures, geometric forms, immersive spaces. This absence of imagery is not a lack, but an intentional choice: removing the “subject” to reveal pure perception, almost like certain spiritual or aesthetic experiences where what matters is not what you see, but what you feel.

NON-ANTHROPOCENTRIC. In Numero Cromatico’s work, the artist is not at the center, and the artwork is an open device – a perceptual and sensory stimulus offered to the viewer, who is invited to question themselves. In this sense, the work aligns more with a concept of distributed intelligence than with classical human authorship.

INITIATORY. Numero Cromatico’s works are spaces of transition, thresholds, and inner transformation. It is not just about “looking at” an artwork, but rather undergoing a perceptual, cognitive, and psychological process.

The exhibition is a journey that, like in ancient initiation rites – where the individual was taken out of the ordinary world to return transformed – aims to suspend familiar points of reference. You don’t immediately know what you’re looking at; there is no “narrative”, and so you are forced to activate yourself inwardly: you feel, you process, you project.
The idea is of a “non-narrative” art, that engages both body and mind in an experience that changes you – not by telling you something, but by compelling you to become something else, even if just for a moment.
